Smoke alarms save lives — and Queensland has some of the strictest smoke alarm laws in the country. Barcam Electrical installs, replaces and tests photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in homes across the Mackay region, so you can rest easy knowing your family and your property are protected.
When you might need smoke alarms installed or replaced
Your existing alarms are more than 10 years old (they have a use-by date)
You’re selling or leasing your home and need to meet current legislation
Your alarms are beeping intermittently or not working properly
You’re building, renovating, or buying a new property
You only have one or two alarms and aren’t sure if you’re compliant
What We Do
We install hardwired, interconnected, photoelectric smoke alarms that meet Queensland’s current requirements. That means when one alarm goes off, they all go off — giving everyone in the house the earliest possible warning.
Our team will assess the layout of your home, work out where alarms are needed, and install everything to current standards. We can also test existing alarms and replace ones that are due.
FAQ
-
By 1 January 2027, all Queensland homes need photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and on every level. New builds, sales and leases already need to comply. Find out more on the Queensland Fire Services website here, and give us a call and we’ll talk through what your specific home needs.
-
Test them monthly, vacuum them every six months, and replace the batteries every year (unless they’re 10-year sealed lithium). Replace the alarm itself every 10 years.
-
Usually it’s a low battery, dust, or an alarm coming to the end of its life. Don’t ignore it — call us and we’ll sort it.
