A safety switch is only useful if it actually works when it needs to — and the only way to be sure it does is regular testing. Barcam Electrical carries out scheduled RCD testing on commercial and industrial sites across the Mackay region, keeping your workplace compliant, your team protected, and your documentation ready if anyone ever asks for it.
When you might need RCD testing
Your workplace is due for scheduled RCD testing
You're on a construction site or in a high-risk workplace with frequent testing obligations
You've just added new equipment, boards or circuits
You've had a nuisance trip or an RCD failure
You want documented evidence of compliance for insurance or audit
You're not sure how often your site should be tested
What we do
We carry out RCD testing to AS/NZS 3760, including both the push-button test and the full trip-time and trip-current test, on both portable and fixed RCDs. Every test is documented — RCD identified, results recorded, test date logged, next test date scheduled — so you have a clear register you can produce whenever it's needed.
If an RCD fails, we let you know straight away, tag it out of service, and offer a repair or replacement so you're not running exposed.
FAQs
-
Depends on the workplace. Construction and demolition sites typically need push-button testing daily and a full trip-time test every twelve months. Most commercial workplaces run on six- or twelve-month cycles for fixed RCDs. We'll help you set the right schedule for your site.
-
The push-button test confirms the switch mechanism operates. The trip-time test uses calibrated equipment to confirm the RCD actually disconnects within the required time under fault current. Both are needed — one doesn't replace the other.
-
WHS legislation requires safe electrical installations in workplaces. RCD testing under AS/NZS 3760 is the standard way to demonstrate ongoing compliance.
-
Yes — and we'd encourage it between formal tests. The formal trip-time test still needs to be done with proper test equipment by a competent person.
